The Historic Train Depot of Downtown Cartersville
Project Overview
In 1854, Western & Atlantic Railroad built the Cartersville Train Depot to provide passenger service between Atlanta and Chattanooga. This iconic piece of downtown has since evolved into the City of Cartersville’s “Welcome Center” due to its centralized location on the city square. Pennant Construction Management, along with E. Dunay Design, were tasked with transforming the space to better fit the needs of a rapidly-growing town.
The project’s main goal was to convert pieces of the building into exterior restrooms for downtown concerts and events. Pennant Construction added five exterior restrooms and remodeled one interior restroom to enhance downtown accommodations. Five of the six restrooms are ADA compatible. While under construction, the historic piece of Cartersville also received flooring enhancements, new paint and increased office space for the Downtown Development Authority and Only in Cartersville Bartow organizations.
