For the sixth time since 2000, Pennant Construction Management, Inc. was honored by The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation with an “Excellence in Rehabilitation Award.” The accolade comes from the restoration of the “Rudy York House,” which is located along one of Cartersville, Georgia’s busiest streets. The award recognizes projects that make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations or additions while preserving features of the property that convey its historical value.
The house was built in 1938 by World Series Champion and Cartersville native, Rudy York. York was a seven-time All-Star who rose to fame in his rookie year when he broke Babe Ruth’s then-MLB record for most home runs in a single month with 18. The catcher led the major leagues in home runs, RBI and total bases between 1937 and 1946.
York lived at the house for over 32 years. The property recently faced demolition threats due to area redevelopment, but Pennant Construction Management, Inc. secured the building and transformed the home into its office headquarters.
