The rudy york house

Project Overview

This piece of land located on the busy Tennessee Street of Cartersville, Ga. holds way more history than meets the eye. In 1938, a local by the name of Rudy York constructed this house to raise his kids alongside his wife, Violet. Most people in today’s time may never have heard of Mr. York, but in the 1930’s and 1940’s, he was one of the most famous players in Major League Baseball. York was a seven-time All-Star who rose to fame one year prior to building this Cartersville home in 1937. During this season, the Detroit Tigers catcher made baseball history when he blasted 18 home runs in a single month to shatter the record that was held at the time by baseball great, Babe Ruth. York won the 1945 World Series with the Tigers and led the major leagues in home runs, RBI and total bases between 1937 and 1946.

York lived at this location for over 32 years. Recently, the property faced demolition threats due to area redevelopment. In 2023, Pennant Construction Management, Inc. acquired “The Rudy York House” and transformed the building into its current office headquarters.
